	1.	Pillar cells are found in the organ of Corti and act as supporting cells for hair cells.
	2.	Both types of pillar cell are characterized by the presence of thousands of cross linked microtubules and actin filaments in parallel orientation.
	3.	Outer pillar cells are unique in that they are free standing cells with no contact to adjacent cells except at the bases and apices.
